The Commercial Law LL.M. Program at Baku State University

The Baku State University Commercial Law LL.M. Program is a unique and highly innovative program that prepares students for a career in the world of international business.

After graduating from the two-year Commercial Law Program, students possess both the knowledge and the practical skills required of attorneys working in a global marketplace.

Program courses examine fundamental issues affecting business and commerce in a comparative context. Students learn not only what the law is, but how it applies to business deals and disputes in Azerbaijan, Europe, and the United States.Additionally, students will develop sophisticated analytical skills, strong legal writing abilities, fluent legal English, experience with the techniques of alternative dispute resolution, and readiness for working in international and cross-cultural corporate contexts.

Most important, the Program instructors provide invaluable assistance in mentoring students as they build their careers in the field of commercial law.All instructors are practicing attorneys in Azerbaijan’s most prominent law firms, oil concerns, banks, and businesses. Not only do the instructors teach classes in areas such as banking or tax law, they work in these fields on a daily basis. Thus, the instructors ensure that the students understand the difference between the theory of law – and the reality in the office.

The US Agency for International Development (USAID), through the American Bar Association, supports the Commercial Law LL.M. Program in program development, instructor workshops and trainings, annual intensive commercial law English courses for students, textbook and material purchases, and career guidance for students, including assistance while applying for internships.

Each year, a select number of students with the highest scores on their entrance exams are exempted from all tuition costs. All graduates of the Commercial Law LL.M. Program receive their degrees from Baku State University.

How is this Program different?
